You don’t need to know the right words. A few details make the first call go faster:

• Where in the house it is: basement, crawl space, attic, bathroom, behind a wall.
• What you’re noticing: visible growth, a musty smell, staining, or water.
• Whether there’s been a leak, a flood, or a sump pump failure, and roughly when.
• If a home sale or an insurance claim is involved, and any deadline that comes with it.

Photos help a lot. If you send a message, I’ll ask for a few.

What happens next

I’ll get back to you, ask a couple of questions, and set a time to look at it in person. After the visit you get a written scope: what I found, where the moisture is coming from, what the work involves, and the price. No pressure to sign anything on the spot.
